1863, Pooley Bridge
Restaurant with Rooms,
Ullswater the Lake District
BUILT DURING QUEEN VICTORIA’S REIGN IN 1863
For over 150 years, 1863 has quite literally been a cornerstone of the village. The property is set in the heart of Pooley Bridge, a pretty village on the shores of Ullswater in the Lake District. It was built first as the village blacksmith and later it became the post office.
REIMAGINED FOR THE 21st CENTURY
Now 1863 is more than an award-winning restaurant with seven elegant bedrooms; we are a family affair who enjoy getting the little things just right, welcoming guests back times and again to share in a slice of Lake District paradise.
Owners Anne and Mark offer their guests quality Lake District Bed & Breakfast accommodation located in Pooley Bridge on Lake Ullswater. Here you will find a choice of seven elegant en-suite bedrooms, a homely welcome and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. For the very best rates and latest availability, call us direct on 017684 86334.
We serve a good selection of beers, wines and spirits but what we’re really passionate about are our ‘beers of the month’. Mark works with a number of local breweries to showcase some of the region’s finest unsung beer heroes. Keep an eye out for our monthly recommendation on social media and on the good, old-fashioned blackboard outside!
A small menu in a restaurant of this calibre is perfect. It means a restaurant can put all its heart into each dish it produces and the dishes we had were truly amazing. Really well presented and totally delicious. All there courses were excellent. Thank you for a lovely evening.- July 2018
This was our second visit to this fabulous boutique hotel. A first class treat. Chef Phil and his team are worthy of a Michelin star or two even! They are obviously passionate about presentation as well as flavour with all dishes like a work of art – amazing.- April 2018
This is an excellent spot for a short stay. Very convenient for the village and all pubs, shops, walks etc. Rooms are superb. Clean, fresh, well decorated with great bathrooms.- July 2018
Only a few minutes from the M6 at the top of Ulswater this small hotel and restaurant is a gem. Undoubtedly the highlight was the evening meal. A superb menu with excellent service. The dishes were well explained by the waiter and the standard of food was superb! I would say Michelin star level, a seriously talented chef is busy in that kitchen! A great place to stay and eat, I will be back!- June 2018
